Super Bowl Parties and Social Host Liability

Posted: 2/2/2012 1:55:00 PM

Did you know that Super Bowl Sunday is the SECOND LARGEST day of food consumption behind Thanksgiving?  Over 450 million Wings will be served, 14,500 tons of chips and 4,000 tons of popcorn are eaten on Super Bowl Sunday!  So what do most Americans wash all that down with?  That’s right, an ice cold beer!  Over 325 million gallons of beer are consumed on Super Bowl Sunday.  So you might be wondering what all of this has to do with your Minnesota Home Insurance policy?

If you are throwing a party and serving alcohol there is a possibility that you could be held liable in the event that a guest or 3rd party gets injured in an accident related to consuming alcohol at your event.

Although winter has been sparse this year, many snowmobilers are still out on the trails putting on the miles, myself included.  This past weekend I had to opportunity to ride in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and couldn’t believe the amount of snowmobile traffic.  People had come from all over in search of snow and groomed trails.

While I was out riding on Saturday we came upon this snowmobile:
