Is Your Snowmobile Properly Insured?
Although winter has been sparse this year, many snowmobilers are still out on the trails putting on the miles, myself included. This past weekend I had to opportunity to ride in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and couldn’t believe the amount of snowmobile traffic. People had come from all over in search of snow and groomed trails.
While I was out riding on Saturday we came upon this snowmobile:

I have never seen a snowmobile completely engulfed in flames and I couldn’t help myself from thinking about Snowmobile Insurance and if that person was properly covered for that particular type of loss.
Typically insurance is the last thing you think about when you throw on your helmet, gear and go out for a ride, but it’s important to make sure you have the right coverage’s. You never know when disaster could strike and you could be left on the side of the trail wondering what to do next.
So what types of coverage are available for your snowmobile and what exactly does it cover?
- Collision – Damage to your snowmobile from a collision with another sled, rocks, trees and other obstacles
- Comprehensive – Helps pay for damage to your vehicle not caused by collision. Loss or damage from theft, fire, vandalism or other covered peril is covered by comprehensive coverage
- Property damage – Damage caused to another person’s property
- Bodily injury (Liability) – Pays other people’s medical expenses if you’re at fault in an accident. Many state laws require liability coverage and each state has its own minimum requirement
- Uninsured motorist – Helps pay for damages to your vehicle if it is damaged in an accident by an underinsured, uninsured or unidentified driver
